January 2021 Matches Of The Month

 A good month with a number of matches worth your time.

  1. Jeff Cobb vs. Shingo Takagi (5/1 – NJPW)

    Non-stop intensity with stiff bombs, slams and drops. Easily, the best match of Cobb’s career and Shingo finally gets the chance to shine in the Tokyo Dome. Available on NJPW World.

  2. Sareee & Yoshiko vs. Best Friends (11/1 – SEAdLINNNG)

    Continuous action and hard strikes throughout from two teams with great chemistry. Sareee will be much missed from this environment. Available here.

  3. Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Shingo Takagi (30/1 – NJPW)

    Two of the best wrestlers in history meet in singles action for the first time in a classic NJPW style main event. Available on NJPW World.

  4. Kota Ibushi vs. Jay White (5/1 – NJPW)

    An epic story with continually escalating tension between a wounded champion and a cocky challenger. Available on NJPW World.

  5. Maki Ito vs. Miyu Yamashita (4/1 – TJPW)

    A great story of Ito’s determination to prove herself and be taken seriously. Available on DDT Wrestle Universe.

  6. Finn Balor vs. Kyle O'Reilly (6/1 – WWE NXT)

    Not quite as good as last year’s Takeover match, but still lots real fight like intensity. Available on WWE Network.

  7. Yuki Ueno vs. Yusuke Okada (23/1 – DDT)

    A treat to see this much effort on a smaller show. Ueno continues to look like a future star. Available on DDT Wrestle Universe.

  8. Kenny Omega vs. Rey Fenix (6/1 – AEW)

    Spectacular flips, tricks and athleticism from both men. Available free on ITV Player until 7 February (UK only).

  9. Keisuke Ishii & Shu Sakurai vs. Daisuke Kanehira & Kouki Iwasaki (24/1 – Ganbare Pro)

    I don’t watch as much Ganbare as I should. This was continuous action throughout. Available on DDT Wrestle Universe.

  10. Yasufumi Nakanoue vs. Yuji Okabayashi (2/1 – BJW)

    A highly satisfying, traditional strong division title match. Available here.

  11. Dragon Lee vs. Rey Horus (15/1 – ROH)

    Horus is underrated and Lee is one of the best in the world. Available free on FITE TV.

  12. Taiji Ishimori vs. Hiromu Takahashi (5/1 – NJPW)

    A great display for the junior heavyweight division in its highest spot to date. Available on NJPW World.

  13. Jungle Boy vs. Dax Harwood (21/1 – AEW)

    Nice old-school TV match between underdog babyface and bully heel. Available free on ITV Player until 28 February (UK only).

  14. Tam Nakano vs. Mayu Iwatani (24/1 – Stardom)

    Stiff action that hints towards a bigger match to come. Available on Stardom World.

  15. Kota Ibushi vs. Tetsuya Naito (4/1 – NJPW)

    Good Tokyo Dome main event, but we’ve it before from these two. Available on NJPW World.

  16. WALTER vs. A-Kid (14/1 – WWE NXT UK)

    Not as good as the Dragunov match, but worth checking out. Available on WWE Network.

  17. BxB Hulk & KAI vs. Jason Lee & Kota Minoura (12/1 – DragonGate)

    Quality tag match with good shine on Minoura. Available on DragonGate Network.

  18. Tamura Hayato vs. Masato Tanaka (1/1 – ZERO1)

    New year gets off to good start. Would like to see more of Hayato. Available here.

  19. Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi vs. Shuji Ishikawa & Suwama (2/1 – AJPW)

    Good tag team match let down by a few clunky spots. Available on AJPW TV.

  20. Rika Tatsumi vs. Yuka Sakazaki (4/1 – TJPW)

    Decent main event with a surprising finish. Available on DDT Wrestle Universe.

February 2021 Matches Of The Month

  A month in which we saw an extremely high volume of high calibre matches. Regrettably, we also saw disappointing carelessness relating to Speaking Out from a number of companies. Therefore, I cannot advocate PPVs or subscription services here in good conscience. I recommend people look carefully before deciding whether a promotion's conduct is worthy of your money.   1.  Eruption vs. Konosuke Takeshita & MAO (23/2 – DDT) A fantastic tag match. Higuchi and Sakaguchi have great, badass chemistry and compliment each others strengths perfectly. Takeshita was the world class worker we are accustomed to. MAO was the star, dynamic, passionate and unpredictable.    2.  Suzu Suzuki vs. Tsukasa Fujimoto (23/1* – Ice Ribbon) This match managed to combine a relentless pace with innovative offence and an intense feeling of a real fight.
